How to make a milkshake

Milkshakes are easy to make, but making an ideal milkshake is all about balance. Regardless of what flavor you prefer, the right ratio of ice cream milk is important and knowing some simple tricks can help your dessert grow from good to great. Once you have laid your trepidation, you can add any delicacies to satisfy your heart's wishes.

Proper milk
One of the most common mistakes people make at home making milkshakes is to use too much milk. You really only need a splash or a pair of ounces. The more milkshake the better. Using too little milk makes it difficult to drink at first, but becomes easier when the ice cream melts. Some people prefer this type of ultra-thick shake.

You should never add ice to a milkshake. The last thing you want to do is dilute the great cream of milk and ice cream combo with frozen water. Save ice for smoothies.

The best ice cream
In most cases, stick with vanilla ice cream to avoid milkshakes that are too sweet. Whether you’re making chocolate, strawberries or other flavors of shake, vanilla ice cream is like a blank canvas, allowing you to bring the flavor right. Add flavor with fun ingredients like chocolate syrup, fruit or cookie slices.

Warm up your ice cream
It may seem counterintuitive, but using ice cream is too cold, which can have a negative effect on your shake. All you really need is ice cream with 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The ice cream should be very tender with respect to the soft-serve consistency. If it is too hard, you will need to add more milk to dilute it and it will throw the ice cream-to-milk ratio.

Keep your freezer ice cream at zero degrees Fahrenheit, so allow it to soften for a few minutes at room temperature. Not too long - you don't want to melt it. If you can use the Instant Reading Thermometer to find the exact temperature you want, once you have it easy, you are good to go.

While strawberries do not need to be soaked in a blender of sugar, the sugar actually expels the natural juices of the berries and enhances the sweetness of your milk to give it a wonderful flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound fresh strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Garnish: small whole strawberries
  • Cut the tops from the strawberries and cut them into a few pieces.
  • Directions
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped strawberries, sugar and vanilla essence and mix well.

Set aside and allow to sit, if you have at least 20 minutes and 1 hour.

Put the strawberries in a blender along with any juice, ice cream and milk.

Mix until smooth.

Pour into a large glass and place the strawberries on the edge of each glass if desired.

Serve immediately.
